Europe’s top priority continues to be the war in Ukraine, as emphasized at an international meeting in Prague, where Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) co-hosted. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how support for Ukraine can be accelerated, particularly in terms of ammunition and air defense. “The situation is as serious as it can be. The Ukrainians are fighting bravely, but they need more help. Immediately,” the Prime Minister stated in a press release. In addition to the Prime Minister, the Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte participated in the summit. The main topics were ammunition, air defense, and support for the Ukrainian defense industry.
The international community is seeking to respond to Russia’s recent ground offensive against the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv. Ukraine is in a precarious situation and relies heavily on Western military assistance. “That is precisely why we have launched the initiative on ammunition together with the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Now we need to take stock in Prague and look at what more we can do. Ukraine must remain free. Europe’s security depends on it,” says Mette Frederiksen.
