Experienced politician joins Nye Borgerlige, party discusses policy at meeting

New Right (Nye Borgerlige) now welcomes an experienced politician to their ranks. The party announced this in a press release. Carsten Kudsk, former 1st deputy mayor in Nyborg Municipality and former temporary member of parliament for the Danish People’s Party, has chosen to join New Right. Kudsk has most recently been the chairman of the Local Democrats in Nyborg and Assens and has a close acquaintance with New Right’s current chairman, Martin Henriksen, who also has a past in the Danish People’s Party.

“I know Carsten as a good and hardworking man, and I am sure he will be able to contribute to the development of New Right,” said Martin Henriksen in the press release. New Right has gathered in Nyborg over the weekend for a members event, where the main board meets with 100 members to discuss policy development and the party’s statutes. Among other things, the party wants to abolish the user fee on the Great Belt Bridge.

“We agree that the state demands too much in taxes and fees, and therefore we collectively start with a proposal to eliminate the user fee for motorists on the Great Belt Bridge. It’s good for Funen and it’s good for all motorists visiting our different regions,” said Martin Henriksen.

Carsten Kudsk stated that he is impressed by New Right, which has been in crisis since the general election in 2022. At the beginning of 2024, New Right’s parliamentary group was dissolved, led by party founder Pernille Vermund. She shortly after switched to the Liberal Alliance, while Kim Edberg Andersen ended up joining the Denmark Democrats. Peter Seier Christensen is currently an independent in the Parliament, but he is still a member of New Right. No one knows what will happen with him as he is on sick leave.

Furthermore, Mette Thiesen, Mikkel Bjørn, and Lars Boje Mathiesen have left New Right in the current term. The first two have joined the Danish People’s Party. Lars Boje Mathiesen has founded his own party, the name of which is still unknown.

“I am impressed by the fighting spirit that I have encountered here at Hotel Nyborg Strand, where the party is holding a members weekend. New Right’s members have shown courage because they have clearly refused to accept the closure of the party,” said Carsten Kudsk.
