Students maintain protest outside of the University of Copenhagen despite meeting some demands. The group “Students Against Occupation” has announced that they will continue their protest actions outside of the University of Copenhagen (KU). This is happening despite the university’s announcement that they are withdrawing their investments from three companies with activities in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The movement, consisting of students, has specified to Ritzau that their demonstrations will continue until all six of their demands have been met. According to spokesman Asger Trier Kjær, the decision to continue the protests is driven by a desire to achieve further results through continued pressure on the institution.
“Our work is not finished. We see this as a new opportunity to negotiate about the remaining demands we have put forward,” Kjær said. He further stated that KU is currently suspending negotiations with the group but highlights that the pressure they have put on the university has undoubtedly been a factor in the decision about the recently announced investment changes. KU has decided to stop investments in Airbnb, Booking.com, and eDreams as a direct consequence of the group’s pressure on the university’s financial commitments.
However, this is not enough for “Students Against Occupation,” who will continue to be present outside the university until there is a resolution to all demands made.
