The government is planning to present a new strategy regarding part-time jobs aimed at giving young people the opportunity to take on a wider range of tasks. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (V), Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M), and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) revealed this in a joint interview with Jyllands-Posten. Troels Lund Poulsen stated that the current regulations have made it extremely complex for young people to have a part-time job, despite good intentions to protect them. Jyllands-Posten highlighted several of the existing rules for underage workers in Denmark. For example, an underage worker is allowed to clean up in a daycare center but not to serve fruit to the children. Additionally, it is not allowed to operate an ice cream machine if one has not completed 9th grade. The government aims to reform these rules to provide better opportunities for young people in the workforce. The government’s leadership noted in the interview that part-time jobs can play an important role in reducing young people’s lack of well-being and youth crime. This is one of the key justifications for the planned changes.
