Danish Prime Minister Admits Mistake in Social Media Influence

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has often been criticized during her time as prime minister for not admitting her own mistakes. But now she has openly acknowledged a mistake during the closing debate in the Folketing (Danish Parliament). Frederiksen has admitted to being influenced by the social media platform Instagram, which has led to a mistaken perception of a larger trend in society. She mistakenly believed that many Danes dream of opting out of work. “I tried to go against the discourse that I think exists in some circles. Where it is talked about working down. Using expressions like ‘hamster wheel’. And giving the impression that our working life should always be exciting and developing. For the individual,” explained the prime minister, before admitting the mistake: “But in reality, I made a mistake. I got caught up in Instagram and the stories of a few who completely opt out of work. Because that is not the general picture,” said Mette Frederiksen. Additionally, the prime minister acknowledged that she underestimated the resistance to abolishing Store Bededag (Great Prayer Day). The discussion about this decision has shown that the resistance in the population was greater than expected.
