Venstre’s (Right, a Danish political party) EU candidates are divided on weapon donations to Ukraine in the conflict against Russia. This is evident in a review of the candidate test for the EU election, conducted by Democracy in Europe Association (DEO). Candidate Alexandra Sasha has declared disagreement with the statement “EU should donate the necessary weapons and artillery to Ukraine.” This stands in sharp contrast to Venstre’s lead candidate, Morten Løkkegaard, who agrees that EU should donate the necessary weapons. B.T. (a Danish news media) has unsuccessfully tried to get a detailed comment from Alexandra Sasha. However, Venstre’s press service has sent a written response on her behalf. Here, Sasha explains that she supports Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, but she wants a swift end to the armed conflict through a peace agreement. Sasha emphasizes, though, that she is not against weapon donations to Ukraine but believes that these donations should primarily come from individual member countries rather than from the EU as a whole.
This is not the first time Alexandra Sasha has diverged from the party line on issues related to Ukraine. Previously, she answered on Instagram that she “clearly does not” support Ukraine in the war against Russia, but later claimed that her account had been hacked. Furthermore, B.T. has revealed that Sasha has participated in several pro-Russian meetings organized by an agent from the Russian intelligence service, FSB.
