Cowi suspends employees after TV 2 documentary reveals misconduct

Cowi suspends two employees after revealing TV 2 documentary. Cowi has temporarily suspended two of their employees in the wake of the revelations brought to light by the TV 2 documentary “The Black Swan.” According to Cowi’s press chief, Søren Kragh Pedersen, the suspension is happening while an investigation with external legal assistance is ongoing based on the information presented by TV 2. In their documentary, TV 2 highlighted issues regarding the handling and disposal of contaminated soil from a construction project in Vallensbæk on Zealand. Even though Cowi approved the soil management in their supervision report to the municipality without any remarks, TV 2’s investigation shows that the company was aware of the problems.

The documentary “The Black Swan” has sparked a significant public debate since its release. It illustrates connections between criminal environments and, among others, lawyers, contractors, and business people through hidden cameras and microphones. Cowi’s involvement in the documentary is due to a partner in the real estate company 1927 Estate, now reported to the police, giving the impression that Cowi does not properly supervise the disposal of contaminated soil as long as they receive payment for their services.

TV 2 has also documented that Cowi warned 1927 Estate that the project could create problems with the municipality. Nevertheless, Cowi chose to endorse the project. Søren Kragh Pedersen has previously stated to TV 2 that Cowi has failed in their communication and has not ensured the necessary transparency or clearly reported all irregularities. As a consequence, Cowi has also terminated all cooperation with 1927 Estate. Cowi has around 8000 employees and primarily operates in Scandinavia, the UK, North America, and India.
