Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is currently participating in a Nordic-Ukrainian summit in Stockholm, where she is meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and several Nordic heads of state and government. This information comes from a photo shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on the social media platform X. In the picture, Mette Frederiksen is seen standing between the Prime Minister of Iceland and the Ukrainian President. Also in attendance are the Prime Minister of Sweden, the President of Finland, and the Prime Minister of Norway. The summit’s main focus is Ukraine’s fight for defense and the country’s future relations with the EU and NATO.
In a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Mette Frederiksen emphasized that the Nordic countries stand united in their support for Ukraine and recognize the country’s fight for freedom as a collective cause. She also noted that Ukraine urgently needs ammunition and air defense, and European countries should contribute by sending whatever is available. An important item on the meeting’s agenda is how the Nordic countries can increase ammunition production and help Ukraine strengthen its own weapon production. Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, Denmark has provided significant financial support for both military and civilian aid to Ukraine.
The summit in Stockholm is the third of its kind, with previous meetings held in Helsinki and Oslo.
