Venstre’s EU candidate Alexandra Sasha announced on Thursday that she is withdrawing from Danish politics after B.T. revealed her connections to pro-Russian and Putin-friendly networks. Party member and member of the Danish Parliament Jan E. Jørgensen has come to Sasha’s defense. In a comment on Facebook, where Alexandra Sasha announces that she is ending her campaign for the EU elections and leaving politics, Jan E. Jørgensen writes that she has been subject to “a violent campaign” and unfair threats. “Dear Alexandra. You have been subjected to a violent campaign over the past few days – coupled with threats and vandalism against your posters. You do not deserve that,” he begins his comment.
EU lead candidate Morten Løkkegaard previously commented on the issue and thought it was wise of Sasha to withdraw, referring to the revelations that have come to light. Jan E. Jørgensen, who has a close relationship with Alexandra Sasha, highlights her great efforts for Venstre and expresses understanding for her decision. “It is sad that you have had to withdraw, but I understand your decision. Thank you for your great efforts for Venstre – and for your good humor. You will get through this. Love Jan,” he writes and concludes with a heart emoji. B.T. has tried to interview Jan E. Jørgensen without success. The media wanted his opinion on whether he considers B.T.’s revelations to be “a violent campaign” and if he thinks it was fair to describe Sasha’s connections to pro-Russian networks.
Alexandra Sasha has had a prominent role in the European Russian Forum, which Russia expert Flemming Splidsboel characterizes as a pro-Russian and Putin-friendly “influence forum”. Sasha has been a representative and board member in the forum’s youth organization and has participated in meetings organized by Tatjana Ždanoka, a Latvian member of the European Parliament who has previously been revealed as an agent for the Russian intelligence service FSB. Additionally, she has met Boris Titov, a close ally of Vladimir Putin, who according to The Anti-Corruption Foundation acts as Putin’s puppet and is involved in corruption. Furthermore, B.T. revealed that Alexandra Sasha expressed in a election test that the EU should not donate necessary weapons to Ukraine.
