FC Nordsjælland apologizes for wrongful expulsion of conservative politician
The football club FC Nordsjælland has withdrawn a mistaken decision after conservative council member Egil Hulgaard was asked to leave the area around Right to Dream Park in Farum. This happened on Saturday, when Hulgaard was distributing election material before a home match against FC Midtjylland. The incident was reported by online media Alt om Furesø. Egil Hulgaard, who is running for the European Parliament for The Conservative People’s Party, was handing out election materials in front of the stadium when he was directed away by a security guard. Despite his protests, he felt compelled to comply with the guard’s request. “FCN disrupted an election campaign. We politicians have very few opportunities to engage with voters. It is an important event for democracy. Therefore, it is very unfortunate that FCN made a mistake like this,” Egil Hulgaard told Alt om Furesø. Following the incident, FC Nordsjælland has acknowledged that Hulgaard should have sought permission to campaign at a football match before distributing election material. However, upon further investigation, Furesø Municipality’s administration supported Hulgaard’s position that he could not be expelled and that a special permission was not necessary. In response to the matter, FC Nordsjælland’s press chief, Mette Andersen, issued a brief statement: “We apologize for that.”
