A new analysis brings renewed hope to the project of creating a green city park in the heart of Copenhagen. The green area planned across from Tivoli has taken a crucial step forward. The analysis concludes that public transport can be rerouted without significant issues, prompting the Economic Committee of Copenhagen Municipality to approve a continuation of the plans. This information comes from a press release from the Technical and Environmental Administration of the municipality.
The planned city park will result in the closure of car and bus traffic on the first part of Vesterbrogade in the area known as Vesterbro Passage. The green area will be located near City Hall Square and Tivoli, with Tivoli itself proposing the park back in 2019. “A green city park will undoubtedly be a benefit for both the residents of Copenhagen and visitors to the capital. It will also enhance the experience for Tivoli’s guests,” said Susanne Mørch Koch, director of Tivoli. “This is a quality improvement for the entire area with the prospect of a greener Copenhagen, which will also contribute to the development of the capital. We at Tivoli are looking forward to being a part of this,” she added.
To realize the new park, a new local plan is required, and the park’s design will be determined through an architectural competition.
