Russia avoids direct conflict with NATO – Cyber threats against businesses and authorities intensify. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (V) and the head of the Center for Cyber Security (CFCS), Thomas Flarup, announced at a press conference that the threat level for destructive cyber attacks against Danish businesses and authorities is being raised from low to medium. The decision comes in the wake of an intensified hybrid warfare reported by the Defense Intelligence Service (FE) and the Police Intelligence Service (PET). Troels Lund Poulsen emphasized at the press conference that Russia does not have intentions for a direct conflict with NATO, but the cyber threat has still been assessed as increasing.
Previously, the threat level has been assessed as high, and in January 2023, it was raised from medium to high due to increased activity from pro-Russian hacker groups targeting NATO countries. The decision to raise the threat level reflects an increased concern for security in cyberspace and a necessity to protect Danish interests from potential attacks.
