Venstre’s (the Danish liberal political party) EU candidate Alexandra Sasha has announced her resignation from Danish politics after revelations about her ties to Russia and involvement in pro-Russian networks. The disclosures by B.T. (a Danish tabloid newspaper) came in the wake of rumors within Venstre about Sasha’s Russian connections, leading to her being called in for a meeting with the party’s leadership. Venstre’s chairman, Troels Lund Poulsen, now confirms to B.T. that the party’s former secretary, Christian Hüttemeier, had discussions with Sasha before the election campaign. When asked whether he himself was aware of the rumors about Sasha’s connections, Troels Lund Poulsen avoided giving a clear answer and instead only confirmed Hüttemeier’s discussions with Sasha.
According to B.T., several members of Venstre have expressed concerns about Sasha’s connections, which led to the matter being brought to the attention of the party’s leadership. However, Troels Lund Poulsen refrained from commenting further on whether he was aware of the rumors before the revelations. B.T. has also revealed that Alexandra Sasha played a key role in the European Russian Forum, a forum that, according to Russia expert Flemming Splidsboel, acts as a pro-Russian and Putin-friendly “influence forum.” Sasha has been both a representative and a board member of the forum’s youth organization and has participated in meetings organized by Latvian MEP Tatjana Ždanoka, who has previously been exposed as an agent for the Russian Intelligence Service FSB.
In addition, Sasha has had meetings with Boris Titov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin who, according to The Anti-Corruption Foundation, is involved in corruption related to Putin’s properties. Sasha also stated in a pre-election test that the EU should not donate necessary weapons to Ukraine. 365nyt.dk is working to get a comment from Christian Hüttemeier on the matter.
