Five young students have now completed a week-long hunger strike in front of Christiansborg Palace in an attempt to stop Denmark’s arms exports to Israel. One of the strikers had to receive medical attention after fainting due to low blood sugar. Nicholas Nyrop Vinthen, one of the five students and a student at the University of Copenhagen, explains that the goal is to get the government to engage in a dialogue about the necessity of complying with international law by stopping the arms exports to Israel. Nyrop Vinthen points out that their repeated attempts to engage in a dialogue with the government have been ignored. To support the hunger strikers, 22 authors, including Carsten Jensen, Asta Olivia Nordenhof, and Ursula Andkjær Olsen, will read their works in front of Christiansborg Palace on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Although the content of the texts is still unknown, it is clear that they support the students’ fight for their cause.
