A group of activists have decided to end their hunger strike outside Christiansborg after eight days. The activists’ goal has been to stop Danish arms exports to Israel, but they have chosen to end the hunger strike for the sake of their health. According to a press release issued Thursday evening by the activists, health risks have been a crucial factor in the decision. One of the participants was warned by their doctor about potential forced hospitalization if the weight loss and other physical effects continued. “One of us has now been warned by their doctor that they will be forcibly hospitalized if they do not end the hunger strike,” write the activists.
The group, consisting of five students, has experienced serious health problems such as intense heart palpitations, dramatic weight loss, and fainting. A doctor who has been monitoring them throughout the period advised them to stop the action to avoid further health risks. “Especially to avoid forced hospitalization and potentially heart failure for this one activist, we have therefore decided to end the hunger strike,” the activists’ statement reads.
