Copenhagen Municipality to Support Copenhagen Pride Financially for Three Years

The City of Copenhagen has decided to financially support Copenhagen Pride for the next three years, according to a recent press release. The city’s Department of Culture and Leisure states that Copenhagen Pride will receive a total of 1,250,000 Danish kroner over this period. This support comes at a time when several other sponsors have chosen to withdraw their partnership with Copenhagen Pride. Among the sponsors who have chosen to cease their support are Netto, Ørsted, Danish Industry, Maersk, and Novo Nordisk. They stepped back after the former chairperson of Copenhagen Pride, Lars Henriksen, urged potential partners to take a stand on the conflict in Gaza.

The Culture and Leisure Committee of the City of Copenhagen has selected the festivals that will receive both three-year and one-year grants in the years 2025-2027. In total, 39 festivals in Copenhagen have been chosen to receive municipal support. Overall, the city will provide support of 48 million Danish kroner to these festivals. Mayor of Culture and Leisure, Mia Nyegaard, states: “It has become a good agreement where we support different genres for different Copenhageners in different places in the city.” This initiative demonstrates the city’s continued commitment to supporting cultural events and festivals that contribute to the diversity and cultural life of the city.
