Pelle Dragsted, political leader of the Red-Green Alliance, issues a sharp warning against voting for the Alternative at the upcoming EU election. According to Dragsted, votes for the Alternative are likely to be wasted, as the party, in his opinion, does not have real chances of gaining a seat. Dragsted refers to eight to nine polls where the Alternative has consistently been below the necessary six percent required to obtain a seat. “I think there will be two Wednesdays a week before it could become realistic for them to get a seat,” Dragsted told Politiken.
The political leader also points out that the Alternative has entered into an electoral alliance agreement with the Social Democrats and the Socialist People’s Party. This means that votes for the Alternative, if they do not result in a seat, could end up supporting the Social Democrats, which Dragsted believes has a much weaker climate profile than other left-wing parties. He therefore warns left-leaning voters that they may risk supporting a policy they do not agree with.
Franciska Rosenkilde, the Alternative’s political leader, dismisses Dragsted’s statements and describes them as “smear and manipulative rhetoric.” She criticizes the Red-Green Alliance for being bitter about the Alternative’s rejection of an electoral alliance with them and compares the situation to an ex-partner who cannot accept the end of the relationship. Rosenkilde emphasizes that the Alternative represents a counterbalance to the “old toxic political culture.”
