Leader of the Denmark Democrats, Inger StĂžjberg, has undergone emergency surgery due to appendicitis. After waking up with stomach pains, she was admitted to the hospital and had her appendix removed. In a post on Facebook, she shared both the news and a picture from the hospitalization. StĂžjberg humorously wrote about the situation: “Two years ago, I had an ankle monitor removed, and now things are going wrong again. Last night, I woke up with old-fashioned stomach pain, and I could feel that it was slightly worse than when you’ve eaten a bad seafood buffet.” She went on to explain that the problem was her appendix, and instead of handing out flyers in Randers, Silkeborg, and Skive, she spent the day undergoing emergency surgery at the hospital in Aalborg.
Despite the mishap, StĂžjberg optimistically reported that the operation went “really well” and she expects to be discharged on the same day. “As you can probably imagine, I have absolutely no time to be lying in the hospital so close to the election! Therefore, I hope to be back on the streets with our lead candidate, Kristoffer Storm, again tomorrow, Saturday,” she added. StĂžjberg concluded her update with a reference to the ankle monitor she wore after being convicted of illegally separating asylum-seeking couples, for which she received a 60-day suspended sentence in 2021: “Best regards, Inger – now without both ankle monitor and appendix.” The EU election will take place on Sunday.
