Politicians across parties condemn attack on the Prime Minister In the aftermath of the attack on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Friday evening, Danish politicians from across parties have expressed their condemnation and concern. The assault took place at Kultorvet in Copenhagen, where a man struck the Prime Minister. Several politicians have taken to social media to show their support and denounce the incident. Minister of Finance Nicolai Wammen describes the episode as “horrible,” “deeply serious,” and “deplorable.” He sends warm thoughts to Mette Frederiksen and her family and ends his post with a heart emoji. Minister of Defense and Venstre Party leader Troels Lund Poulsen reacts with shock: “Oh no. What a shock. This is not how Denmark is. We do not attack our Prime Minister,” he writes and sends his best wishes to Frederiksen. Mona Juul, leader of the Conservatives, calls the attack “shocking” and also sends thoughts to the Prime Minister. Martin Lidegaard, leader of the Radical Left, emphasizes in a post that “when the country’s Prime Minister is attacked, we are all attacked.” He adds that “political violence is poison for our democracy.” Leader of the Socialist People’s Party (SF), Pia Olsen Dyhr, expresses her concern and sends good thoughts to the Prime Minister, whom she also calls her “good friend.” She emphasizes the importance of maintaining trust and respect for each other. Morten Messerschmidt, leader of the Danish People’s Party, calls for the perpetrator to be punished “quickly and harshly” and at the same time shows his support and compassion for Mette Frederiksen. The reactions from Danish politicians show a united condemnation of violence against political leaders and a common call to protect democracy and respect for each other.
