If you are planning to take the train for a summer holiday through Europe, it may be high time to secure your tickets. DSB reports a significant increase in demand for train tickets to foreign countries this summer, with several departures already sold out or close to it. According to DSB’s customer manager, Charlotte Kjærulff, there are two main reasons for the increased interest. “The Euro Cup is being held in Germany, and then the Olympic torch will be lit in Paris when the Olympics open in France. This has really boosted ticket sales at DSB,” she says. Ticket sales to destinations outside of Denmark have increased by nearly 30 percent compared to last year, and seat ticket sales have risen by 25 percent. “It is possible that we will see more sold-out departures due to the major sports events,” Charlotte Kjærulff adds.
For travelers to Germany, it is important to be aware that this summer there is a requirement for seat reservations. “Therefore, you should buy seat tickets for the departures to ensure you can board,” emphasizes Charlotte Kjærulff. The general interest in traveling by train for holidays is also increasing among the Danes. This has put extra pressure on DSB, which reports that many travelers are already having difficulty finding seat tickets for their entire journey. DSB is doing everything to meet the demand, but the options are limited. “We are not able to add more departures, and we do not have more carriages. Everything that can run is out running for the summer,” says Charlotte Kjærulff. So if you are planning to take the train for a summer holiday through Europe, it is a good idea to buy your tickets as soon as possible.
