On Friday morning, Venstre’s (The Liberal Party) lead candidate Morten Løkkegaard’s campaign car was observed illegally parked with hazard lights on the sidewalk in front of a 7-Eleven in Østerbro, Copenhagen. According to a driving instructor and chairman of the Danish Driving Instructors’ Union, Bent Grue, such parking and use of hazard lights is “clearly against the rules.” Grue compares it to a “pizza delivery parking,” a practice where a pizza delivery person parks quickly and illegally to deliver a pizza. “Driving instructors would fail a student on the spot if they made such a parking maneuver during their driving test,” Bent Grue stated to B.T. (a Danish newspaper).
The Technical and Environmental Administration of the City of Copenhagen also assesses the parking as deeply illegal. Venstre’s press service explains that a campaign worker temporarily parked the car to fetch “fresh supplies” for Morten Løkkegaard, who was busy handing out morning pastries and flyers at Østerport Station. “While Morten Løkkegaard was distributing morning pastries to happy citizens on their way to school and work at Østerport, a campaign worker was fetching fresh supplies, and in the process, they apparently made a stop on a corner,” Venstre stated, adding, “It should not happen again, and we hope that the short stop did not inconvenience other road users.” Morten Løkkegaard was interviewed Thursday night about another matter, where he expressed full support for former Venstre candidate Alexandra Sasha, whom he believes has been subjected to “a huge smear campaign.”
