Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen Subjected to Assault at Kultorvet: Eyewitnesses Elaborate on Incident
On Friday afternoon, a shocking incident unfolded at Kultorvet in Copenhagen, where Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was assaulted. Eyewitnesses have now shared their experiences of the episode with 365news.dk and provided details on both the sequence of events and the appearance of the perpetrator. Marie Adrian and Anna Ravn, aged 18 and 17 respectively, were sitting by the fountain near a flower shop when they saw the Prime Minister walking from Nørreport towards Strøget. “Isn’t that Mette Frederiksen?” they said to each other before the moment quickly took a dramatic turn. A younger man, walking in the opposite direction, forcefully shoved Mette Frederiksen on the shoulder, causing her to stagger to the side. Marie Adrian and Anna Ravn rule out the possibility of it being an accident. “It was a strong push, but she didn’t fall to the ground,” they said. The Prime Minister looked shocked and offended, exchanged words with a man she was with, but nothing was said between her and the assailant. Following the assault, Mette Frederiksen sat at a table at a nearby café, as reported by B.T. The eyewitnesses describe the perpetrator as tall, very slim, with long, dirty blonde hair, wearing a loose t-shirt, shorts, and a crossover bag. The man attempted to leave the scene quickly but was swiftly detained by men in suits, presumably PET (Danish Security and Intelligence Service) guards. “He was shouting something and was aggressive, but we couldn’t hear what he was shouting. And then they subdued him,” said Marie Adrian and Anna Ravn.
After the incident, Mette Frederiksen left Kultorvet with the man and a woman who had been waiting for her at the café. The Prime Minister’s Office and the Copenhagen Police have confirmed that the incident took place and that a man was arrested. However, neither party has wished to elaborate further on the situation. The incident has subsequently drawn condemnation from politicians and others both within and outside the country’s borders.
