It is crucial for The Conservatives (De Konservative) to maintain their seat in the European Parliament, states party leader Mona Juul. Despite being just one out of several hundred seats, Juul emphasizes the importance of representation. “You might think it’s just 1 out of 720 seats, but it is absolutely crucial,” says Mona Juul after casting her vote on Sunday afternoon at Stensballeskolen in Horsens. In the 2019 election, the party secured a mandate, which according to several recent polls, The Conservatives are likely to retain. Juul stresses how important it is for the party to be represented in the European Parliament and to participate in the EPP group, which was the largest group in parliament before the election. “That’s where we ensure Danish businesses and jobs,” she says.
Niels Flemming Hansen is the lead candidate for The Conservatives and also the chairman of the European Affairs Committee in the Danish Parliament. Former members of parliament Marcus Knuth and Birgitte Bergmann occupy the second and third spots on the party’s list, respectively. The Conservatives are part of the European People’s Party (EPP), which was the largest group before the election. One of the party’s key issues is security, where they work towards uniting EU for peace in Europe, including through joint procurement of defense materials. The party also aims to eventually include more countries in the EU, including Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. Migration is also a central issue for The Conservatives, who want to relocate asylum processing to third countries and provide assistance in neighboring areas.
