Danish Party Uses Humor in European Parliament Campaign Efforts

Alternativet has chosen a humorous approach in their campaign for the European Parliament elections, a move which according to the party’s political leader, Franciska Rosenkilde, has drawn attention to the election. Election slogans such as “Janmand seeks love” and “Jannabis for Cannabis” have adorned the posters for the party’s lead candidate, the lawyer Jan Kristoffersen. Rosenkilde believes that humor is an effective way to engage voters. “Politics should be fun, otherwise you won’t get many people talking about it. I think we have succeeded well in that,” she stated after casting her vote.

If Alternativet receives enough votes to secure a seat, it would be the first time the party gains a place in the EU Parliament. The potential seat would be within the group The Greens (EFA). The party’s key issues include a new agricultural subsidy that aims to promote new and sustainable farming over large industrial ones.
