Danish People’s Party (DF) is ready to celebrate with seven percent in the European Parliament elections. The party has reason to be optimistic if the preliminary polling station measurements for the EU parliamentary elections hold. According to measurements from both DR and TV 2, it seems that the party can secure around seven percent of the votes. This would mean that DF retains the one seat they obtained in the 2019 election. The party’s group chairman, Peter Kofod, expresses great satisfaction with the result if it proves to be true.
“If we get seven percent tonight, we’ll keep going until the beer keg is empty,” he said at the party’s election party in Ejstrupholm. However, Kofod cautions that the final result will only be clear after 11 p.m. when the official results are announced. TV 2’s measurement shows that Danish People’s Party is at 7.0 percent, while DR’s measurement gives the party 6.5 percent of the votes. Regardless of the exact percentage, it seems very likely that the party will manage to retain their seat in the European Parliament, which they have held since 1999.
The party’s lead candidate, Anders Vistisen, is no stranger to European politics. Vistisen, who took over from Peter Kofod in November 2022 when Kofod was elected to the Danish Parliament, has previously served in the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019. Danish People’s Party has been on the edge of getting a seat during the election campaign, and they have chosen to stand alone without entering into alliances with other parties. An alliance could have given them surplus votes from other parties, but the party has chosen to stand alone.
With the election night in full swing and the votes being counted, there is great excitement among DF members, who are looking forward to a result that can secure the party’s continued representation in the European Parliament.
