Prime Minister Wishes Danes a Good Election Day Despite Assault Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) wishes the Danish people a good election day despite not participating in today’s activities. On the social media platform Instagram, she shared a picture of herself for the first time since the assault on Kultorvet in Copenhagen last Friday. In the post, she expressed hope that the Danes have a really good election day. The Prime Minister’s Office had previously announced that Mette Frederiksen would not be participating in any activities on Sunday, where elections for the European Parliament are being held. The leader of the Socialist People’s Party (SF), Pia Olsen Dyhr, commented on Mette Frederiksen’s post, writing: “I don’t vote for (S). But I was really happy to see your face.” On Saturday, the Prime Minister also shared a post on Instagram, where she wrote: “I am sorry and shocked by the incident yesterday, but otherwise in good condition.” On Friday, she was hit with a clenched fist on her upper arm, as indicated by a charge read at a court hearing at Frederiksberg Courthouse on Saturday. A 39-year-old Polish man was remanded in custody in connection with the incident. In Sunday’s post, Mette Frederiksen emphasized the importance of voting in the EP election and highlighted that the election is about security and safety in light of war in Europe, climate change, pressure on Europe’s external borders, and technology giants impacting the lives of children and young people. She believes that the EU needs Danish ideas and that Denmark needs a strong EU. “It matters who you vote for today, and every vote counts,” she says. The Prime Minister’s planned participation in events on Saturday was also canceled after the incident. Police inspector Trine Møller from the Copenhagen Police previously stated that the police see the incident as a “singular, spontaneous act”. The Prime Minister’s Office has announced that the blow has resulted in a minor whiplash.
