Social Democrats and the Socialist People’s Party are set to secure three seats each in the upcoming EU election according to exit polls. In the latest exit polls from both DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) and TV 2, Social Democrats and SF are projected to secure three seats each in the upcoming European Parliament election. According to DR’s polls, SF is leading with 18.4 percent of the votes, while TV 2 points to the Social Democrats as the largest party with 18 percent. The exit polls are based on interviews with voters who have indicated their voting choice at the polling stations and should not be confused with the official results.
In the previous election in 2019, the Social Democrats and SF obtained 21.5 percent and 13.2 percent of the votes respectively, resulting in three seats for the Social Democrats and two for SF. At that time, Venstre (Liberal Party) became the largest party with 23.5 percent of the votes. For SF’s tax spokesperson, Sigurd Agersnap, the size of the party is less important than the number of seats. He sees it as a significant milestone that SF is projected to get three seats in the exit polls. “The important thing for us is to send three capable members to parliament and fight for the green cause,” says Agersnap.
Education Minister Mattias Tesfaye from the Social Democrats shares this view. He considers it a significant success if the Social Democrats can once again send three members to Brussels, regardless of whether SF becomes as large or larger. “The most important thing for the Social Democrats is that we can send three to Brussels. We already have that, and it’s very important that we continue to do so. Important decisions need to be made in the coming years,” says Tesfaye.
According to both DR and TV 2’s polls, SF and the Social Democrats are the two largest parties, followed by Venstre. There is anticipation about how the final results will turn out.
