DF retains seat in EU Parliament according to forecasts from DR

Forecasts confirm: The Danish People’s Party (DF) retains seat in the European Parliament according to forecasts from DR and TV 2. The preliminary analyses, based on polling station measurements, counts, and polls, indicate that DF will receive 6.4 percent of the votes in the election. This is a decline from the 10.8 percent the party achieved in 2019. The party’s lead candidate, 36-year-old Anders Vistisen, has stated that it is crucial for both the resurgence of the Danish People’s Party and for representing EU opposition in Brussels and Strasbourg. Vistisen, who has been a part of the European Parliament since November 2022, after taking over the position from Peter Kofod, emphasizes the importance of the party’s continued presence in the EU. Vistisen has previously been a member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019. Despite the challenges DF has faced since the last election, including the leadership change from Kristian Thulesen Dahl to Morten Messerschmidt and several members of parliament switching to Inger Støjberg’s Danish Democrats (DD), the party appears to weather the storm. Vistisen expresses satisfaction that DF is close to both the Danish Democrats and the Liberal Alliance, which according to forecasts are also set to each get a seat. The Danish Democrats are predicted to receive between 7.3 and 7.4 percent of the votes according to TV 2 and DR, which also secures them a seat. The party’s lead candidate Kristoffer Storm will thus also have a seat in the European Parliament. The Liberal Alliance is expected to have a similar outcome with 6.9-7.0 percent of the votes. Although forecasts do not represent the final election result, they provide a clear indication of how the votes are distributed and indicate that DF will continue to be represented in the European Parliament.
