Moderates optimistic despite uncertain poll results for EU Parliament election

The Moderates have reason for optimism despite dubious polling data The Moderates, a relatively new party with only two years of experience, are facing their first European Parliament election. Even though the polling data from both DR and TV 2 suggest that the party may not achieve their goal of two seats, the party’s lead candidate Stine Bosse is still satisfied with their position. On her way to the party’s election celebration, Bosse expressed joy over the party’s current standing, even though they are projected to receive between 5.5 and 6.2 percent of the votes. Previously, the party’s leader, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, stated that the ambition was to achieve two seats. Although this goal seems out of reach, Bosse emphasized that she is proud of the ambition and the party’s accomplishments. “But we are a two-year-old party, and I have a very ambitious party leader, which I am proud and happy about. I would, of course, have liked for there to be two seats, which there probably won’t be. But we are super happy with where we stand,” she said. However, Bosse admitted that the Moderates are still “a bit uncertain,” noting that DR’s polling data gives the party exactly enough votes for one seat, while TV 2’s data gives them slightly less. Bosse arrived at the election celebration with Bergur Løkke Rasmussen, who is second on the party’s list and already represents the party in Brussels after switching from the Liberal Party to the Moderates earlier this year. Bergur Løkke Rasmussen emphasized that the party has run a strong campaign and highlighted that it is an achievement in itself to compete with established parties that have participated in many elections before. “All in all, I mainly focus on the fact that we are almost equal with old, established parties that have done this incredibly many times before,” he said at the election celebration. Even though the Moderates may not achieve their original goal, there is still a feeling of satisfaction and optimism among the party’s leadership and candidates.
