New parties gain seats in EU Parliament according to forecasts

Forecasts show that several new parties will obtain seats in the EU Parliament. According to the latest forecasts from DR and TV 2, Liberal Alliance and the Denmark Democrats will, for the first time, gain representation in the EU Parliament. Both parties will secure one seat each. The Conservatives, the Radicals, and the Unity List are also among the parties securing seats, while the Alternative party seems to lose its chance for representation. Liberal Alliance has previously had difficulty gaining a seat in the EU Parliament, but this time, the fourth attempt was successful. The party’s leader, Alex Vanopslagh, expresses great satisfaction with the election result and highlights that the best election in the party’s history is now a reality. “We are immensely proud and happy that we have achieved the best election in the party’s history in relation to the European Parliament. When we have had polls at ten percent, it shows that you can’t always rely on polls. There is only one poll that matters, at the end of election day. We must remember this in Liberal Alliance when we have good polls,” says Alex Vanopslagh. The Denmark Democrats, led by Inger Støjberg, also participate for the first time in a European election and also secure one seat. The Radicals experience a halving compared to the 2019 election, but still obtain a seat in the parliament along with the Conservatives and the Socialist People’s Party (SF), each standing to gain one seat. SF and the Social Democrats are set to become the largest Danish parties in the EU Parliament, each with three seats. In terms of Venstre (the Liberal Party), the forecasts show that the party will be halved from four to two seats. The only party among the 11 running for the election that does not seem to secure a seat is the Alternative party.
