Dark currents gain ground in Europe: Enhedslisten aims for green majority in the European Parliament
Dark forces are on the rise in Europe, making it crucial to maintain a green majority in the European Parliament after Sunday’s election, says the political leader of Enhedslisten, Pelle Dragsted. Dragsted, who cast his vote at the school on Grundtvigsvej in Frederiksberg, emphasizes the importance of the election for Europe, especially due to climate and nature issues. “It is a ridiculously important election for Europe. This is largely due to questions about climate and nature, where unfortunately we see more dark forces on the rise,” Dragsted said.
Enhedslisten’s election team for the EU Parliament is led by Per Clausen, who previously served in the Folketinget (Danish parliament) and is now a local politician in Aalborg. In second place on the list is Frederikke Hellemann, Enhedslisten’s office manager, followed by Nana Højlund, who is the chairman of the trade union organization in East Jutland.
Enhedslisten is part of the Left group in the European Parliament, which is the smallest group outside of the non-attached members. The party focuses on key issues such as the fight against climate change and reducing the growing inequality in Europe. They also aim to make it easier to travel around Europe by introducing high-speed and night trains between all major European cities. The party also advocates for Denmark to play a more active role in recognizing Palestine as a state.
Previously, Enhedslisten has wished for Denmark to withdraw from the EU, but now the party supports more EU cooperation in selected areas such as climate and environment.
