Pia Olsen Dyhr from the SF party hopes for a significant increase in the upcoming election to the European Parliament, where polls indicate a possible significant growth for the party. Her ambition is to secure three seats for SF in the election. “If we can get three seats, it will be absolutely, absolutely fantastic,” Dyhr stated at Sydhavnens Skole in Copenhagen, where she cast her vote on Sunday afternoon. Polls indicate that SF has a good chance of increasing their number of seats from the two they obtained in the 2019 election to three.
However, Pia Olsen Dyhr expresses concern about voter turnout and urges voters to cast their votes, especially those who prioritize climate and nature. “I hope that many of the people who believe that the climate fight and nature are important will vote, and that they will vote for SF,” she says. SF’s lead candidate, Kira Marie Peter-Hansen, already has experience from the European Parliament. She was elected as the youngest ever in the last election.
On the party’s candidate list, you can also find former member of the Danish Parliament for Alternativet and SF, Rasmus Nordqvist, in second place, and the former party leader and foreign minister Villy Søvndal in third place. In the European Parliament, SF is part of the group The Greens, and the party’s election campaign focuses on climate action and security policy. SF wishes for the EU’s greenhouse gas reduction target to be raised to at least 65 percent by 2030 and for EU legislation on more wilderness. Additionally, SF will work towards EU’s independence in energy, food and defense material.
