During the EU parliamentary elections in Denmark on Sunday, 11 parties secured seats, while Alternativet (The Alternative) came back empty-handed. The final election results show that all participating parties except for Alternativet will receive at least one seat in the EU Parliament. Alternativet’s lead candidate, Jan Kristoffersen, conceded defeat earlier on election night, as both polling station measurements and forecasts indicated that the party would not secure any seats. “I am resigned. Now we are starting to approach a point where we can say, that’s it, the voters have spoken, and that’s just how it is,” Kristoffersen stated when over 90 percent of the votes were counted. The final result, published by the IT company KMD, shows that Alternativet received 2.7 percent of the votes. Kristoffersen does not see the result as a defeat for the party, but rather as a personal disappointment. “I do not see it as a defeat for Alternativet at all. I see it as a good start for Alternativet. I see it as a defeat for myself. It’s on me,” he added.
