Jan Kristoffersen sees the just concluded EU election as a good start for Alternativet (The Alternative), but as a personal defeat. It is now clear that Alternativet will not have a representative in the European Parliament this time. The lead candidate acknowledges the defeat after seeing the forecasts on Sunday evening. “I am clear. Now you start to approach something, where you can say, this is it, the voters have spoken, and that’s just it,” says Jan Kristoffersen, after over 90 percent of the votes have been counted. The forecasts at 11:45 PM show that Alternativet stands to receive 2.7 percent of the votes. Therefore, it is practically ruled out that the party can secure a seat this time. “I do not see it as a defeat for Alternativet at all. I see it as a good start for Alternativet. I see it as a defeat for myself. It’s on me,” says Kristoffersen.
