Anders Brandt Sørensen will become the new lead candidate for the Social Democrats in Frederikshavn, replacing Birgit S. Hansen. The long-standing mayor announced back in March that she will not run for re-election in the 2025 municipal elections. The choice of her successor convincingly fell on Anders Brandt Sørensen, who received 199 votes compared to Tina Kruckow’s 65 in a poll among party members. Danni Nikolajsen, district chairman in Frederikshavn Municipality, confirmed the election to TV2 Nord.
Birgit S. Hansen has held the mayoral position since 2014 and has been a prominent figure in the municipal elections, where she garnered significant personal support. In the 2021 election, a full 40.5 percent of voters in Frederikshavn Municipality personally voted for her, second only to Christina Krzyrosiak Hansen in Holbæk Municipality.
