Asger Christensen (V) is leading in South Jutland in the European Parliament election with a current total of 19,338 votes, positioning him strongly in the competition for Venstre’s (Liberal Party) second seat in the EU Parliament. He has particularly stood out in the constituencies of Kolding North, Kolding South, Vejen, and Tønder, where he is the candidate who has received the most votes. Despite this promising start, Asger Christensen is cautious about drawing hasty conclusions. “Faith is something you do in church. I am waiting for the cold, hard facts. But I would break my own arm to have the opportunity to participate again. Then we will see if the Danes also think it’s a good idea,” he says.
Christensen emphasizes that no conclusions can be drawn about the personal votes until later in the day, specifically at 3:00 pm. Asger Christensen was previously a member of the Kolding City Council from 2013 to 2019 and entered the European Parliament for Venstre in 2019. In the Vejen constituency, he has received 3600 votes, far ahead of the Social Democrats’ lead candidate, Christel Schaldemose, who has received 1941 votes, and Venstre’s own lead candidate, Morten Løkkegaard, who has received 1939 votes.
In the Kolding North constituency, Christensen has received 1741 votes, while Løkkegaard has received 1254. In the Kolding South constituency, he has received 1725 votes, compared to Schaldemose’s 1278 and Løkkegaard’s 1257. In Tønder, Christensen is also clearly in the lead with 2092 votes. Although many votes still need to be counted, and nothing is decided yet, Asger Christensen’s main competitor for the seat appears to be Ulla Tørnæs (V), who has currently gathered 10,108 votes. The final decision is expected later on Monday.
