Conservatives surpass Venstre in Gentofte at recent EU election

The Conservatives have overtaken Venstre in Gentofte in the recent European Parliament election, where the party secured 0.2 percentage points more votes than Venstre. With 16.9% of the votes compared to Venstre’s 16.7%, the Conservatives managed to become the largest party in the Gentofte constituency. This represents a significant decline for Venstre, which in the previous election in 2019 was the dominant party in the area with a whopping 9.9 percentage points more votes than now.

Gentofte is unique in this context as it is the only constituency in the country where the Conservatives have received the most votes. The party has previously shown its strength in the 2021 municipal elections, where they garnered an impressive 57% of the votes in Gentofte. However, in the 2022 general election, it was Venstre that dominated with 16.8% of the votes.

In the last European Parliament election in 2019, it was Venstre’s lead candidate, Morten Løkkegaard, who received the most votes in the Gentofte constituency with 5,274 personal votes. The Conservatives have Niels Flemming Hansen as their lead candidate this year, but it is still unknown who has received the most personal votes in Gentofte in this year’s election. So far, personal votes have only been counted in five constituencies.
