Danish Candidate Asger Christensen Leads in EU Parliament Vote

Asger Christensen (V) dominates the vote counts in several electoral districts – on the way to Venstre’s second mandate in the EU Parliament? Asger Christensen, candidate for Venstre in the European Parliament elections, has secured a strong position in the battle to win the party’s second mandate in the EU Parliament with a preliminary count of 17,329 votes. Especially in the electoral districts of Kolding Nord, Kolding Syd, Vejen, and Tønder, Christensen is the dominant figure, surpassing both his party colleagues and competitors. Christensen, who served as a city council member in Kolding from 2013 to 2019, entered the European Parliament in 2019. In Vejen, he has received 3,600 votes, placing him far ahead of the Social Democrats’ lead candidate, Christel Schaldemose, who received 1,941 votes. Venstre’s lead candidate, Morten Løkkegaard, received 1,939 votes here. In Kolding Nord, Christensen received 1,741 votes, while Løkkegaard received 1,254. In Kolding Syd, he received 1,725 votes, with Schaldemose at 1,278 and Løkkegaard at 1,257. Also, in Tønder, the vote counts show Christensen’s popularity with 2,092 votes. Although many personal votes are yet to be counted, it seems very likely that Asger Christensen is in a strong position in the race for the party’s second mandate. His main competitor within the party appears to be Ulla Tørnæs, who has so far gathered 8,335 votes. However, nothing is final until the last votes are counted later on Monday.
