European Parliament: Henrik Dahl and Niels Flemming Hansen secure seats
Liberal Alliance has reached a historic milestone as the party’s lead candidate, Henrik Dahl, has secured the party’s first ever seat in the European Parliament. Henrik Dahl, who previously served in the national parliament, will now shift his political base from Copenhagen to Brussels and Strasbourg. The Conservative lead candidate, Niels Flemming Hansen, has also secured a seat in the European Parliament, meaning he too will leave the national parliament for Brussels.
Following Monday’s count of personal votes, the results were clear: Henrik Dahl received 65,502 personal votes, while Niels Flemming Hansen received 33,147. Despite the difference in personal votes, the Conservatives overall had a better result than the Liberal Alliance. The Conservatives received 8.8% of voter support, while the Liberal Alliance received 7.0% of the votes. Both parties have thus secured one seat each.
On the social media platform X, the Liberal Alliance expressed their gratitude for the support of the voters. “Henrik Dahl will be our very first seat in the European Parliament ever. Thank you to all of you who voted for the Liberal Alliance yesterday,” the party wrote on Monday evening. Furthermore, this is the fourth time that the Liberal Alliance has participated in a European Parliament election.
