Enhedslisten (The Unity List) warns against Alternativet (The Alternative) and creates tensions between the parties. Enhedslisten has warned voters against voting for Alternativet, which now affects the relationship between the two parties. Alternativet will be the only party not to obtain a seat in the EU Parliament, and party leaders are trying to find the reason for this on Monday night. One thing is certain: dissatisfaction with Enhedslisten is significant. Political leader Franciska Rosenkilde states that Enhedslisten has put in a lot of effort to keep Alternativet out. “It is an old, toxic culture where unfortunately too much energy is spent on trashing others instead of focusing on their own election campaign. I do not know what Enhedslisten even stands for in its European policy. It would have been nice if they had focused on that instead,” says Rosenkilde.
Alternativet is in an electoral alliance with Socialdemokratiet (The Social Democrats) and SF (The Socialist People’s Party) because the party is pro-European and wants to be part of the Green Group. “SF has been our ticket,” she explains. Enhedslisten’s political spokesperson, Pelle Dragsted, has warned against voting for Alternativet and lead candidate Jan Kristoffersen. He argues that the party was far from getting a mandate, and therefore it would end in wasted votes. “I think it’s really unfortunate that Pelle Dragsted and Enhedslisten have spent energy on dividing the green wing instead of getting as many green votes for the EU as possible,” says Rosenkilde.
When asked if it has affected Alternativet’s view and relationship with Enhedslisten, Franciska Rosenkilde answers: “Yes, absolutely. We especially thought we were allied with them, and when they try to sabotage us two days before an election, it certainly changes the relationship. And I think it’s really unfortunate.” Enhedslisten retains a mandate in the EU Parliament. The other nine parties that ran also obtain mandates in the EU.
