Socialdemokratiet (The Social Democrats) stands firm: The results cannot be disputed. Christian Rabjerg Madsen, the political spokesperson for the Social Democrats, maintains that the government’s results are indisputable in response to the Moderates’ wish to revive the government’s political work. The reaction comes after Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (Moderates) called for a collective reflection on the government’s relevance and political efforts following an EU election where the Moderates secured a single mandate and received the fewest votes among the ten parties that entered the EU Parliament.
Madsen emphasizes that although the Social Democrats did not perform admirably in the EU election, the government has delivered solid results. “When looking at the government’s results, one must emphasize that the results are unquestionable,” he says, adding that the positive results should be the focus leading up to the parliamentary election in two years. Lars Christian Lilleholt, the domestic policy spokesperson for Venstre (The Liberals), also expresses satisfaction with the government cooperation and highlights the achieved results as a success.
“I am a supporter of the SVD government. I think we have achieved a wide range of results, and I hope and believe that we will continue to do so,” he says. Despite Venstre being below ten percent in national polls according to Voxmeter, the party received 14.7 percent of the votes in the EU election. The Social Democrats, who usually hover around 20 percent in national polls, achieved 15.6 percent, while the Moderates received 5.9 percent. Ritzau is still attempting to obtain a comment from Venstre’s political spokesperson, Torsten Schack Petersen, regarding the Foreign Minister’s analysis.
