In the tally of votes for the EU elections, Venstre’s (The Liberal Party) lead candidate, Morten Løkkegaard, has now received over 100,000 personal votes. According to the IT company KMD, which is responsible for delivering the official results, this milestone was reached around 2:40 pm this afternoon. Løkkegaard is approximately halfway to matching his result from the EU elections in 2019, where he secured a total of 207,558 personal votes. While there are still personal votes to be counted in several electoral districts, especially in the areas around Copenhagen, North and Mid-Zealand, as well as East and West Jutland, things are looking promising for Venstre’s lead candidate.
At the moment, the Social Democratic lead candidate, Christel Schaldemose, and the lead candidate for the Socialist People’s Party (SF), Kira Marie Peter-Hansen, are behind Løkkegaard in the number of personal votes.
