DR documentary sheds light on sexism in music industry in 2024

DR’s latest documentary, “Sexism in the Music Industry”, has shed light on the dark shadows of female musicians’ experiences in 2024. One of the voices that has contributed to uncovering the uncomfortable truths is Anna Kildetoft, a former student assistant at the Entertainment Orchestra, who received boundary-crossing messages from Martin Brygmann in 2020. Unfortunately, Anna Kildetoft’s story is all too familiar. Like many other women in the industry, she experienced that messages from established figures like Brygmann often focused more on her appearance than her professional skills. Even in a professional context, the conversations all too often ended up revolving around what he thought of their looks. This story, unfortunately, is not unique. DR’s documentary highlights several similar cases, emphasizing the deeply rooted sexism in the music industry. Women like Anna Kildetoft are coming forward and sharing their experiences to break the silence and fight for equality in an industry still marked by injustice and violations.

“Sexism in the Music Industry” presents a harsh, but necessary reality. It is only by listening to and supporting voices like Anna Kildetoft’s that we can hope for real change and a more just future for all musicians, regardless of gender.
