Venstre gains renewed energy from election results, looks ahead positively

The election result gives Venstre renewed energy. Venstre has achieved a significant increase in the EU election and is now experiencing a new optimism within the party. After struggling with low national polls, the party has obtained 14.7% of the votes in the EU election. This is seen as a major breakthrough by party group chairman Lars Christian Lilleholt. “It gives a lot of courage to Venstre. It gives us an appetite for more,” says Lilleholt, adding that this result is a breakthrough of dimensions that he has not experienced in many years. Despite this progress in the EU election, Venstre has lost two of their four seats from 2019. Lilleholt points out that a lot has changed since then, including the formation of two new parties, Danmarksdemokraterne and Moderaterne, both created by former Venstre members and together received over 13% of the votes. Despite these challenges, Venstre became the largest party in the conservative camp in the election, which is a significant improvement compared to the national polls, where the party has been behind both Liberal Alliance and Danmarksdemokraterne.

The Speaker of the Folketing (Parliament), Søren Gade, however, has expressed concern that Venstre’s leader, Troels Lund Poulsen, has too many tasks. He believes that Poulsen should concentrate on the role of party leader and deputy prime minister and leave the defense minister post to someone else, as this post is very time-consuming. Lars Christian Lilleholt does not want to interfere in this discussion and expresses full confidence in Troels Lund Poulsen’s ability to assess his tasks. “I am very, very satisfied with the effort that Troels has made,” he says. With the strong election result in hand, Venstre now looks forward with new energy and optimism.
