Danish Culture Minister calls for ethical code in music industry

Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt (Venstre Party) has demanded an ethical code of conduct in the music industry after watching the DR documentary “Sexism in the music industry.” According to the minister, people who do not adhere to this code should not have a role in the industry going forward. The documentary, spanning over two episodes, features 13 participants sharing their experiences with sexism, focusing on body over talent and structural sexism. Several participants also talk about specific incidents of inappropriate behavior. While the women in the documentary anonymize their experiences, singer and actor Martin Brygmann revealed on Facebook that certain parts of the documentary are about him. The minister now hopes that major concert organizers and key players will contribute to creating a code of conduct to ensure proper conditions and gender equality in the music industry.
