Enhedslistens (The Red-Green Alliance) member of the Danish Parliament, Victoria Velasquez, received 5549 personal votes in Sunday’s EU Parliament election, despite her clear statement that she did not want to be elected. Already at the beginning of the year, Velasquez made it clear that she would not take a seat in the parliament if elected. Velasquez was placed 10th out of 14 on Enhedslistens candidate list. She had stated beforehand that she would pass on her mandate if necessary. Enhedslisten obtained one mandate in the election, which went to lead candidate Per Clausen, who received 32,670 personal votes. With the many personal votes, Velasquez ended up as the party’s fourth substitute for the EU Parliament.
