Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reflects on her future role after assault. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) is facing a possible change in her work strategy after being assaulted in Copenhagen. In an interview with DR, she reveals that the experience has deeply affected her. Frederiksen was assaulted on Friday at Kultorvet by a man who, according to a doctor, is mentally unstable. The man, a 39-year-old Pole, is now charged with violence after hitting the prime minister on the arm with a fist. The assault has led Frederiksen to cancel several events and the need for peace, something she has rarely had the opportunity for in many years. The Prime Minister states that she will continue to perform her duties, but in the future, she will consider how best to fulfill her role, especially in larger gatherings. She plans to spend more time in the office in the future. “It is very intimidating when someone crosses the last physical boundary one has as a human being,” she tells DR. “There is shock and surprise in it.” Although the assault was not necessarily politically motivated, Frederiksen feels that the attack can also be seen as an attack on Danish society. She was clearly shaken, but she maintains that she will continue with her tasks as prime minister, albeit with a possible different approach in the future. Frederiksen did not attend the Social Democratic Party’s (Socialdemokratiets) election party on Sunday and has spent the weekend recovering. She emphasizes that she will take the time to figure out what kind of prime minister she should be in the future, while continuing to fulfill her official duties.
