The Emergency Management Agency (Beredskabsstyrelsen) has announced a comprehensive support package for Ukraine, aimed at strengthening the country’s emergency response capabilities with items such as rescue lifts and smoke diving equipment, with a total value of 150 million Danish kroner. This marks the agency’s largest international effort to date. The support package includes new firefighting and rescue equipment as well as “critical components” for a mobile hospital donated to Ukraine in 2022. Additionally, the contribution includes training for Ukrainian emergency responders to effectively utilize the donated equipment. Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen expresses satisfaction in providing this crucial support in the field of civil protection. He emphasizes the importance of continuing to find ways to support Ukraine in all possible areas.
Meta Bodenhagen, a civil servant in the Emergency Management Agency’s international emergency response department, states that this package is a result of the agency’s work since the start of the war. She highlights that the need for rescue equipment has grown as attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure have intensified. The donations are carefully tailored to meet Ukraine’s most pressing needs and the capabilities of the Emergency Management Agency. An advisor from the agency will accompany the donation to Ukraine to ensure that the support is relevant and usable. The funding for the support package comes from the Ukraine Fund, which has allocated 64.8 billion Danish kroner for military support to Ukraine from 2023-2028.
