In a new documentary from DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation), titled “Sexism in the Music Industry,” singer Signe Svendsen comes forward and talks about an uncomfortable incident involving musician Martin Brygmann. The incident took place in late summer 2007, when Svendsen and Brygmann were on a gig in Aarhus together with an unnamed woman. According to Svendsen, there was no hotel room booked for them, so they stayed at the woman’s place, whom Brygmann called “really beautiful” and a “fantastic Aarhus girlfriend.” During the night, Svendsen woke up to find Brygmann under her duvet touching her breasts. She initially tried to ignore the situation but ended up rejecting him and pushing him away. Svendsen admits in the documentary that she regrets her passive reaction and wishes she had responded more strongly. She is one of five women in the documentary who describe boundary-crossing behavior from Brygmann. Martin Brygmann has denied all accusations and stated that he did not consciously behave sexist. The documentary sheds light on sexism in the music industry and highlights the challenges that women face in the environment.
