Danish PM Mette Frederiksen to Attend Folkemødet After Schedule Change

The Prime Minister arrives at the Folkemødet on Friday. Following an unexpected change in her schedule, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) will participate in the Folkemødet on Friday. Originally, the Prime Minister was supposed to be present on Thursday, but due to an incident last week, she has chosen to participate in a modified program the following day. This was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office to Ritzau. It is still unclear what exactly the modified program will entail. The Folkemødet, which takes place on Bornholm, spans from Thursday to Saturday. The altered schedule comes in the aftermath of a violent incident at Kultorvet in Copenhagen, where the Prime Minister was hit on her right arm. The incident occurred last Friday, and Mette Frederiksen has openly discussed the psychological aftermath it has had on her. In interviews with DR and TV 2 News, the Prime Minister mentioned the unpleasant experience and the subsequent considerations regarding her public appearances. She stated that she still does not feel entirely like herself and therefore will work more from her office in the coming weeks. She also mentioned that the incident has prompted her to reconsider how she should act as Prime Minister in larger gatherings in the future. “It is very intimidating that someone crosses the last physical boundary one has and is allowed to have as a human being. There is shock and surprise in that,” said Mette Frederiksen to DR. The Folkemødet, which brings together politicians, organizations, and citizens for debate and dialogue, will thus see the Prime Minister’s participation one day later than planned.
